North Country Daylilies, and Longlesson Farm is the work of Melanie and Bob Mason. The display garden and hybridizing garden is located in Saratoga Springs while the sales garden is located in Buskirk, NY. At the sales garden you can choose your favorite daylily in bloom and have them dug while you wait. The garden of 1100 cultivars includes minis, small-flowers, doubles, spiders and exotic forms. The farm's location in the foothills of the Green Mountains is a good test for cold hardiness. | ||

| Longlesson Liberty Belle Mason 2002, tet, Dor, 35" ML 6.5" This is one of the most striking daylilies I’ve ever grown. There’s something about the color combination of the rose-pink petals, the lemon-gold watermark, and the extremely green throat that really grabs the garden visitor. “Belle” inherits branching and bud count from her pollen parent, Techny Peach Lace, as well as a later bloom time. She tends to be a bouquet bloomer, opening several flowers at once. (Festal Banner x Techny Peach Lace) $50. | Pinkle-Purr Mason 2002 tet, Dor, 25" L, 3.5" Pinkle-Purr is probably my favorite of this year’s introductions. What’s not to love about this flower? It’s wonderfully round and ruffled, always opens well, has a fantastic scape with 4-5 way branching and loads of buds, and it’s lightly fragrant. The color is clear as a bell without a hint of peach, and soft as a kitten’s fur. My three year old clump was magnificent. No eye to complicate things, and a tiny green throat. Not a big flower, but the proportions of this daylily are exactly right. (President Hadley x Seminole Wind) $75. | Wolf Whistle Mason 2002 tet, Dor, 32", M, 5.5"Whooo-eeee! A construction worker’s dream! Round and ruffled, and just what you’d expect from this cross. Bud count and branching could be a bit better (3-way and 12-15 buds) but the bright gold self with rose band is simply lovely. (Smuggler’s Gold x El Desperado) $35. | |

Any sailor knows the way home, just put the Red buoys on the Right side as you are Returning. This bold scarlet daylily is as bright as any beacon, and surely would help you find your way home. If you are into Feng Shui, this would be an excellent one for your front door. Round and ruffled, and absolutely impervious to sun, RED RIGHT RETURNING also boasts a scape with 4-5 way branching and a bud count up to 35. This one was the featured seedling on our web-site last year. (95-34 x Stamile seedling) $75 | ![]() |
